Role Description
The Assistant Chief works closely with the Fire Chief and is the operational chief. They are responsible for carrying out the direction and mission of the organization. They are well-versed in fire service policies and current trends. They ensure uniformity of all shifts and provide direction when implementing policies and addressing operational challenges. The Assistant Chief guarantees the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the organization. They must have good decision-making skills, the ability to problem solve, and communication needs in all organization directions.
Education Requirements
Usually, Supervisory experience with the rank of Captain or higher
Bachelor's Degree in business or fire-related field
Command-level leadership training such as Fire Officer Certification, Executive fire Officer programs
Incident Command System Training - 100, 200, 300, 400
