Description

Each spring, Florissant Valley Fire Protection District hosts Fire Up St. Louis. Fire Up STL is a completely free opportunity for women, ages 18-40, who are considering a career in the fire service. Fire Up St. Louis is a weekend long experience. Friday evening consists of learning how to navigate schooling, how to get a job, resume building skills, career opportunities in the fire service, and get fitted for the turn out gear you will wear the rest of the weekend. Saturday and Sunday of camp are completely hands-on. Participants learn a wide range of skills, including

but not limited to search and rescue, vehicle extrication, hose management, and ladders. At the end of camp, participants will put all the skills together in a house fire simulation.

This camp is taught by female and male firefighters from across the St. Louis and St.Charles area. The mission of Fire Up St. Louis is to inspire, empower, and transform lives. This camp is an area for women to step outside of their comfort zones in a judge free atmosphere. Each instructor is dedicated to helping every participant succeed, no matter what their background or obstacles are.
